Bring a Chicken to your Doctor

In Nevada U.S. Senate candidate Sue Lowden elaborated on her statements in an appearance Monday on “Nevada Newsmakers,” saying: “Before we all started having health care, in the olden days our grandparents, they would bring a chicken to the doctor." Lowden said Thursday that Harry Reid is trying to make her look bad over remarks suggesting a return to the barter system with doctors. “Harry Reid is trying to change the subject from his 2,700 pages of government-run health care,” she said after a breakfast meeting in Reno.
Ms. Lowden's remarks got me to thinking and I happened to have an appointment with my doctor for a routine check-up. I asked him if he would take my latest crocheted afghan instead of cash. He told me it was good enough for two visits, but if he took it instead of cash, Ima was going to be mad because she tried to pawn off a couple of woven pot holders her grandson made for a boil removal and besides he couldn't eat the afghan. Well, I don't raise chickens any more having moved to town a few years back, but next time I'm going to bring the doctor a big screen TV.

Marvene, you and the Senator-to-be are totally correct on the bartering issue. I have a second cousin who's brother-in-law knows this guy who used to deliver papers for an old couple that had that big farm house by the river. Michele, you know who I'm talking about. Anyway, this old couple, and this was not too long ago, would bring livestock to pay for mechanical work on their cars, farm equipment. Ole JB at the service station was willing to barter his services, why shouldn't Dr. Patel??

I mean, I can see not bringing in cow meat to an Indian Dr, so there needs to be some standards out there. Like Dr. Patel would take a roasted pig, but you couldn't do that for Drs. Almadahar and Goldberg. Maybe the doctors office can put up a sign to explain what the good doc will and will not accept.

Sorry, I was rambling there. Basically, my point is that Marvene makes a good point about bartering for health care. Dingy Reid doesn't know what he's talking about...vote the bums out!!!!!

Wait a second...did I read that title right? Was it "Bring a liberal to your doctor"?

We all know those libs are not patriotic since they are always yappin' about ending war and stuff...nope, they are chickens indeed!

Point taken, wfp, but what do I tell the doctor when he asks what he can do with a liberal? Oh my, I can hear the wheels a-churnin.

Well, I suppose you can do about anything you want with a liberal since they are moral-less, baby-eating heathens. Afterall, isn't it the liberals that we always hear about soliciting gay sex in the airports and stuff? I can't remember if that's them or someone else...

I raise chickens. . . sometimes I take my doctor eggs. He never charges my insurance company less though. Should I tell the insurance company?
Sometimes I deliver him chickens. . . dressed and packaged. He pays me for those.

Good points wfp. I do remember that story about the liberals soliciting gays in the airport bathrooms. Also I saw on Fox that that congressman who was propositioning male pages had a D after his name. So I'm assuming he's a Democrat, since Fox never makes intentional mistakes in their chyrons to make liberals look bad. They are fair and balanced.

Sagacious, I would definitely document any poultry products you take to the doctor. Once we get a bartering system written into the repealed and/or replaced health care bill (after the Republicans win back the House and Senate and ensue impeachments proceedings on Barak Hussain Obama/Sotearo in late January 2011), you may be able to get retroactive credit for the eggs you brought into your doctor.
